I am currently teaching Math 7 at Warrenton Middle School. I believe that my experience and training make me a strong candidate to help the students in your school district reach their greatest potential.
Throughout my first years of teaching, I have continually taken the opportunity to reflect on my performance - reviewing what went well and what could be done better. I constantly adapt my teaching processes, procedures and techniques in order to ensure better learning by my students. I became a middle school teacher, after many years in another profession, because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children at a very important time in their development. After teaching for two years, I believe I am making a difference. When I came on board, the math program at Warrenton Middle School was severely under-performing. My forst class of seventh grade students increased their SOL passing percentage by 17% over the passing percentage on their sixth grade SOL.
Despite this success, I know I can do better. I plan to spend my summer working on classroom organization and improving the quality of my lessons. I am going to find ways to incorporate additional differentiation and I want to develop engaging activities that further student learning.
I completed the EducateVA Career Switcher Program as a “highly qualified” teacher and received my Career Switcher license in May 2010. My endorsement area is Middle School Math. The Provisional (Career Switcher) License converted to a five-year, renewable license in June 2012.
I have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and over twenty years of experience in technical management. I also have five children/step-children aged 9-16 and over ten years of youth coaching experience. These life experiences, combined with my rigorous teaching education, enable me to provide a somewhat unique learning experience to middle school students.
I would appreciate the opportunity to meet and discuss your school system, areas of need, and how I can help your students achieve not only academic success, but important life skills as well.
